Jupiter

The largest planet in our solar system, it is 1000 times more massive than our earth, and is the fourth brightest luminary after Venus. It is the first and greatest of the so-called gas giants, and has moons orbiting which may one day be able to sustain human life.

To the Greeks as Zeus, he was head of the Olympians. His symbol was the thunderbolt, also as Thor in the Nordic gods. He gives his name to Thursday (Thor's day).

Jupiter is associated with expansion, philosophy and higher learning. Also with long distance travel and spiritual wisdom. He evokes the spirit of generosity, joy and joviality, optimism. There may be a tendency however, to over extend oneself under his influence.

Spiritual wisdom is also associated with Jupiter, and indicates meditation and going within, and all aspects of personal growth. It rules the liver.

The metal of Jupiter is tin. Tin is used to protect other metals from corruption using a process called galvanisation.
