The Moon
The moon is the second most important luminary. It creates the tides of the oceans, rules the fluids of the body. It represents the feminine principle, and our emotions, our subconscious, the world of dreams.
Alchemically it denotes philosophical mercury, or Spirit. In this context, Spirit is the universal life force, that which animates all matter.
Astrologically, the moon rules Cancer, one of the water signs. The moon waxes and wanes each month, from the dark moon to the bright full moon. It is both the receptive and reactive part of our nature.
The moon is associated with the past, with habits and with instincts. For most of us, our primary female role model was our mother, so nurturing and security are also associated with Luna.
Silver is the metal of the moon, the natural complement to the gold of the sun. Used in jewellery for millenia, it is interesting to note how jewellery is invariably worn at chakra points - throat, heart, ankles, wrists, earlobes, fingers.
Silver is an excellent electrical conductor, but also helps the flow of more subtle energies of our psyche too. Alchemically, Luna rules the brain.
