Venus

The second closest planet to the Sun, and the nearest to earth, she is the third brightest object in the sky after the sun and moon, dazzling us with her diamond like beauty and radiance, so bright that she can even cause things on earth to cast a shadow. Sometimes she is the Morning Star, sometimes the Evening Star. She rotates around her axis in the opposite direction to all the other planets. She is definitely something special.

Venus was the goddess of love, beauty, pleasure and the arts. To the Greeks she was known as Aphrodite, and she also had a fiestier reputation, both headstong as well as sensual. To the Egyptians she was Hathor, the cow-horned goddess, appropriate as she rules the sign of Taurus. She also rules Libra.

Venus is associated with the kidneys, which have a very feminine quality about them. She also governs sugars.

Venus is about attractiveness - literally who we attract to us, as well as who we are attracted to. She brings about harmony, artistic creativity and enjoyment of all the senses. Venus affects how we relate to other people.

Her darker aspects include jealousy, and no woman could ever compete with her beauty without fear of incurring her wrath, which could be extremely spiteful indeed.

Copper is the metal of Venus, soft and malleable, her colour
indicating reflected sunlight perhaps?
